Travels...

I don’t know exactly why although I can think of a number of reasons….but I love driving and taking in and appreciating the area that I live and work in. I am continually grateful to the Lord for Him placing us in East London and for His provision in terms of the work He has for us. I am also grateful that my job entails a fair amount of travel and mostly by road. I am then grateful that most of my traveling is done in the company Land Rover-Freelander (A great name for a travel vehicle I think!) which is a very comfortable fairly nifty vehicle with a more than adequate sound system which as you know is vitally important.
In my travels I have been to Port Elizabeth a couple of times, Port Alfred once and Johannesburg a number of times although this is by plane before picking up the hire car and cruising around. The trip that I make a couple of times a month is into the old Transkei to site. This takes about 3hrs one way. I then spend about 2 hours driving around site for various meetings before spending another 3hrs returning home. By that time I am pretty close to exhausted and do not want to drive another meter. About 3 days later the urge to hit the road returns and I can’t wait to get an early start and head off up the N2.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a meeting at the Royal Golf Club in Port Alfred. What a beautiful drive over all the rivers. It is only 150km’s away which these days is becoming a drop in a bucket…or is that ocean?! It was a really good day of meeting new people enjoying a lovely lunch before heading back for EL.

Hitting the open road offers the opportunity for much more than just geographic travel….it is such a good time to pray, reflect, praise, worship, dream, think, contemplate and be refreshed internally even as the body tires from the focus and concentration. It is a good thing and I am grateful.
